Pyskany Eggs (Ukranian Decorated Eggs)

Pyskany Eggs (Ukranian Decorated Eggs)

Come to Gather on July 24 at 6pm to learn this incredible Ukranian tradition of decorating eggs!  This is not just an Easter thing - these eggs are beautiful and look great hanging in your house year round!

Pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg decorated with traditional folk designs using the wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write" as the designs are not painted on but written (inscribed) with beeswax. The wax-resist method lets the design build little by little creating a beautiful, vibrant motif on the egg once the wax is removed. I fell in love with this method of egg decorating shown to me by my grandmother and have passed on the tradition to my children. I would love to share the gift of pysanky with you and spread the beauty of this Eastern European tradition!

The class will last 1-2 hours and costs $29.
